Responsibilities:
Position
The America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) is seeking an accomplished Director of Communications who has at least 8 years of communications experience. Reporting to the President, the Director of Communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, public relations, and marketing activities of ABF to consistently articulate its mission. The Director of Communications will manage a small team and will work closely with a senior peer group within the organization on a variety of strategic initiatives. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and compelling messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical. To achieve this he/she will bring his/her significant experience, energy, acumen, and creativity.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and execution of a thoughtful, creative, and inspiring communications strategy to ensure consistent, compelling narrative and high-impact messaging about the mission and activities of ABF.
- Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.
- Generate online content that engages diverse audiences across the country.
- Design and execute public events that strengthen ABF’s image and deepen public understanding of our mission and work.
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic material including but not limited to ABF’s website, digital media, newsletters, brochures, and others.
- Coordinate webpage maintenance – ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
- Mentor and lead a team member responsible for ABF’s website administration and coordination.
- Track and measure the level of awareness about ABF activities.
- Manage all media contacts.
- Oversee media training for staff.
- Advise grantees on communications.
- Draft speeches for the President, Executive Director, Chair of the Board and others as needed, as well as write articles for publication.
- Act as a spokesperson, if necessary, who can represent the organization and who can speak with credibility, persuasion and polish across a spectrum of stakeholders and audiences.
- Serve as a member of senior staff, participating and providing direction for key media and PR initiatives
- Lead the creation and execution of a thoughtful, creative, and inspiring communications strategy to ensure consistent, compelling narrative and high-impact messaging about the mission and activities of ABF.

Requirements:
Qualifications
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
- Exceptional writing/editing and verbal communications skills in English and Bulgarian and judgement with demonstrated creativity around creating new and compelling ways to talk about things for which there is no established industry language.
- Highly proficient with digital media.
- A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently.
- Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence.”
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, grantees, officials, and other key stakeholders.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives.
- Unquestionable ethics and personal integrity.
- University degree in journalism, public relations, law, social science, business administration or some other relevant field.
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
